Windows 10 IrDA update for November

Hi Everyone, Caleb here from Coolgear again. You may have noticed that Microsoft has put out a big update to Windows 10. Part of this update allowed the IRDA driver to correctly install, however it still doesn’t quite work correctly.

I’ve been in touch with the chipset provider and they have told me that this changes a lot of things about getting a new driver released. They wouldn’t go into technical details, but I was assured that they would have a new driver done by the beginning of the year. From there they would send it off to Microsoft for testing and to receive their “stamp of approval” so it can be publicly released. This process typically takes about 4 weeks, so we’re tentatively expecting a February 2016 release date for the driver.

April 2016 Update:

The chip manufacture and Microsoft are still silent on this, and our supplier has informed us they have no new information regarding a driver update.

Still waiting on Microsoft to get off their behinds and get this IrDA issue fixed!!! What does it take to get them to fix this issue? I have tried to leave messages and they disappear as soon as I post them. Hummmm!!!

      Annie,
We understand your frustration on this issue. We’ve reached out to our supplier and the chip manufacture (ASIX) for an update, but both have gone silent on the issue. We’ve heard inconsistent rumors that the next beta (available to “Insiders” and codenamed “Redstone”) seems to be working using the existing IrDA drivers, but we’ve not been able to replicate that in our testing.

I just got an update from Scubapro on a driver.
“Microsoft is working on a promising updated version of Windows 10 and have released it to their testing community. We have verified that this updated version has a functioning IrDA driver. This version has other updates, enhancements and fixes, but we cannot be sure the released update will still have the IrDA driver fix, but we are encouraged. When this might be available to the public is unknown.”
