Introduction

CentosSEC is an advanced software to map your serial port devices (COM ports) to Ethernet so they could be accessed from anywhere in the world (via Internet or LAN) as if it is attached directly to the remote PC. When the attached serial port device sends communication data it is actually transmitted over TCP/IP network and back from the network to your serial device.

Launch CentosSEC

After installed the CentosSEC, you will need to navigate either to the Start Menu and locate the launcher in Programs submenu or double-click the shortcut created on the desktop. Please note that CentosSEC should be run as an administrator, for some Windows such as 2008, Vista and 7, their UAC (User Account Control) will limit the CentosSEC from working properly if you have only standard user privileges. In this case, please right-click the CentosSEC shortcut on the desktop, choose “Properties”, click “Compatibility” tab, enable the “Run this program as an administrator” option of the privilege level then click OK. Configuration Commands:

The configuration of CentosSEC is based on a list, you can Add, Edit, Remove a COM port connection on the list, then click Update all to actually create all COM ports in your system and map them on TCP/IP network, you don’t have to reboot your system after doing the changes.

Buttons to make the list:

Add               Creates a new COM port connection into the list.

Edit              Opens a selected COM port connection dialog to modify its settings. To edit the settings of a COM port, move your mouse cursor to the COM port, click it to highlight the row, then click Edit button.

Remove        Removes currently selected COM port connection from the list.

Remove all   Removes all COM port connections on the list.

Load list        Loads the list with a VCOM list file (.dat), you can either append the file to the current list or clean (discard) the list then load the file to become a new list.

Save list        Saves the list as a VCOM list file.

Sort               Arranges the items on the list in COM# sequence.

Buttons to synchronize the listed COM ports in your system:

The following buttons will create or modify the COM port connections in your system, when you make your list without clicking the Update all button, the “Status” fields of the COM port connections are left blank, after clicking Update all button, they will change to “Registered” then become “Available”. The COM port connection with “Available” status is ready for your device to work with immediately.

Update          Updates the currently selected COM port connection, if the COM port does not exist, create it in your system, if it already existed, update its settings.

Update all     Updates all COM port connections in the list to your system. If the COM ports don’t exist, create them in your system, otherwise, update their settings accordingly.

SEC Express Configuration:

The SEC Express Configuration reads the configuration data from the default.dat file (is usually in the C:\Program Files\Centos\SEC\Data subdirectory) and create all COM port connections automatically in your system. The user must use the Save list function to save as the exact same file name as default.dat. The default.dat file does not exist when CentosSEC software was shipped. You can run the SEC Express Configuration from the Program Group (Centos SEC x.xx -> SEC Express Configuration) or type CentosSec /e at the command prompt.
