In industrial and high-vibration environments, a secure USB connection is essential. Coolgear’s screw-lock USB cables are designed to pair with our industrial-grade hubs and other compatible devices to prevent accidental disconnects, data loss, and power interruptions.

If you’re evaluating whether your third-party USB hub is compatible with screw-lock USB cables, the key factor is simple: measure the distance between the threaded screw-lock holes. Below is a quick guide to help you confirm compatibility. If your hub is a Coolgear USB hub, our cables already interface seamlessley, start integrating now.

USB Type-A Screw-Lock Port Spacing

For USB Type-A ports with threaded screw-lock holes, compatibility depends on the distance between the center points of the two threaded holes.

Required measurement: 19mm apart

If the threaded holes measure 19mm from center to center, the port is compatible with Coolgear’s screw-lock USB Type-A cables. This spacing is common on many industrial USB hubs, including a wide range of Coolgear models.

Using calipers is the most accurate way to confirm this measurement.

USB Type-B Screw-Lock Port Spacing

USB Type-B upstream ports are frequently used to connect hubs to host systems in industrial environments. For screw-lock Type-B compatibility:

Required measurement: 24mm apart

If the threaded holes measure 24mm, your hub will properly align with Coolgear’s screw-lock Type-B cables. This configuration is typical for rugged, panel-mounted, and industrial-grade hubs.

Because Type-B connectors vary between USB 2.0 and USB 3.x form factors, always confirm both connector type and screw-hole spacing.

USB Type-C Screw-Lock Port Spacing

For dual screw-lock USB Type-C ports:

Required measurement: 15mm apart

Dual screw-lock Type-C connectors follow this 15mm spacing standard. In addition, USB Type-C screw-lock measurements are standardized under the USB Implementor’s Forum (USB-IF), helping ensure cross-compatibility between compliant hubs and cables.

Both single and dual screw-lock Type-C ports and cables follow USB-IF mechanical guidelines, but it’s still good practice to verify physical spacing before purchase—especially when integrating with third-party hardware.

Why Measurement Matters

Screw-lock USB connections are commonly used in:

  • Industrial automation and robotics
  • Test and measurement systems
  • Mobile or vehicle-mounted installations
  • Military and aerospace environments
  • High-vibration manufacturing floors

Proper alignment ensures:

  • Secure mechanical retention
  • Reduced risk of intermittent connectivity
  • Protection against cable strain and accidental unplugging

At Coolgear, our hubs are engineered for secure integration in demanding environments, with durability and reliability at the forefront of design .
