Most “write protected” adapters simply allow the operating system to think it is writing data, when in fact it is silently ignoring write commands. This leaves an uneasy feeling where you aren’t sure if the data was actually written or not until you verify. With the USBG-127ASD USB 3.0 SATA / IDE Adapter, there is no uncertainty when in write-protect mode, the operating system cannot write data to a connected drive and will present you an error if you attempt to do so.

True USB 3.0 Read Rates
I have been in the LE Digital Forensics field for 11 years and have used the best of the best out there. I recently took a side job with a private firm and was building out my own quick response rig. Not wanting to spend $400+ on a Tableau I picked up this thing. Going in I was not super optimistic, but for the price, why not. With some quick bench marking I determined this thing can hold its own and is pulling true USB 3.0 speeds. I’m not talking UASP speeds, but it beat a 5400 RPM USB 3 external drive (albeit with a 7200rpm drive attached). I will be verifying hashes before giving it any case work, but others have tested that and it held up. The only thing I didn’t see in any other reviews was speed bench marking, so here it is, screenshot attached. Give it a shot, even if it lasts a year it’s worth it.

Drives not reliably able to be accessed with write blocking enabled
Write blocking sometimes causes drives not to work with OS. (Latest Windows 10) Works with simple ‘all one partition’ drives, fails to work with others which do work on a professional quality write blocker. Need to research more, perhaps it’s GPT based partitions? Drive will be briefly seen by windows, then reported as malfunctioning and disappears from the UI. So is you need reliable write blocker this isn’t the droid you are looking for.
